A Heavy Preview

The Heavy Eyes ~ Somniloquey (single) [2015]

 The heavy rock sound that we've come to expect from The Heavy Eyes is present and accounted for in their newest single, and preview of an upcoming album called "He Dreams of Lions". The fuzz is generous on this one, keeping with tight and swinging grooves and a melodic but not overbearing vocal presence that has always been a staple in the band's music. They seem to be embedded in the music, as opposed to just riding on top. At only two and a half minutes, the track really flies by, especially with an ear drum blistering guitar solo to end things on; those two and a half seem more like one and a half minutes by the time things wind down. The little preview isn't much more than a tease, but it should get you fired up for a new album that's in the works. And you can go grab it for absolutely nothing, and that's always a good thing.

Light It Up...

The Heavy Eyes - The Heavy Eyes (2011)

Deep and fuzzy blues rock from Memphis, Tennessee, The Heavy Eyes' self-titled debut album (originally released in 2011) recently received a reissue, courtesy of Kozmik Artifactz and Bilocation Records. If you haven't already heard it, just imagine delta blues translated into heavy rock, and you're in the right neighborhood. The drums provide a wall of pounding, the guitars have that bleariness you achieve around the 36^th hour of being awake, and the vocals are flavored with smoke, but not to the point where it overwhelms what's being sung.

In short, if blues rock is your thing, and you'd enjoy having more stoner rock influence in the mix, The Heavy Eyes will provide you with what you want. Copies of the reissue are going fast (all of the band's personal copies available through their BandCamp have already sold out), but there's still a few left at Bilocation Records' shop, so snag it now if you don't want to be left hanging.

All Hail The Heavy...

The Heavy Eyes - Maera, Demo EP (2012)

As most of you will no doubt agree these guys never fail impress. In fact I would go as far as to say that every time they announce a new release, be it EP or album they always manage to out do themselves. They've never failed me before and they sure as hell ain't failed me here. So now I've set the bar at a staggering high and possibly put the kiss of death on it, lets just crack on with the release in hand.
Consisting of just two tracks like its predecessor, the 'demo' is actually pretty much the final product and just somewhat of a teaser for the upcoming second album. Also, like their previous release its once again filled to bursting point with the guys own style of uptempo stoner blues. A classic last 60's/early 70's feel but with distinct modern high octane twist that the Memphis trio have very much made their own.
The release of the total four tracks showcasing the new material really bodes well for them, as in the past their demo's have proved to be way more that adequate for general release and more than often blow other similar bands final, polished and mastered efforts well and truly out the water. But working once again with Matt Qualls who oversaw the engineering of the self titled first album, expect nothing short of pure excellence when it comes to final product. Like goddamn ninja, Qualls is one of the few that is capable of treading that fine line between fuzz and clarity without tipping the scales too far in either direction.
I only actually have one gripe with this EP and it's the exactly the same I had with EP 2 from back in May; it's basically the musical equivalent of a hot girl fondling your junk for 15 minutes then pissing off home. You get all worked up and excited then before you know it you're back on your own wondering when you're gonna get the rest! Well hold on to those blue balls just a little longer because album number two is on route! Dropping around the end of December you'll be able to pick Maere up, once again via Kosmik Records. The chaps have promised to keep me updated on the vinyl pressing details so as soon as I know, you will too!

Second Coming...

The Heavy Eyes - 2 (2012)

We've always been big fans of these guys. One of the very first bands we put up here and they've remained firm favourites ever since. In no small part because of their awesome blend of dirty blues and classic 60's/70's style rock. So once again we're glad to announce that the guys are back with a brand new album. Well... Kind of anyway, just not quite yet. But here's a couple of great tracks from the forthcoming release to wet your whistle...

All Eyes On You...

The Heavy Eyes - Promo EP (2011)

The Heavy Eyes were one of the very first bands I put up on here, and I loved their first EP. So needless to say I'm glad to be hearing new stuff from the Memphis blues trio. Not only that, they've clearly gone from strength to strength. Which is great to hear, especially as this is just a preamble to their forthcoming full length release. The drop date of which has not yet been announced but they better make it soon because once again these guys have left me wanting a whole lot more.
Just like last time they return with dirty fuzz blues at it's best. You don't wanna miss out on this one. Watch this space for more info on the album coming soon...

Are You Feeling Sleepy?...

The Heavy Eyes - Demo (2010)

It's always great finding a good demo, especially when the band's done their best to keep true to their sound. No over production or messing around, just get in - jam - get out. These days with with all the available software and cheap recording equipment its so easy for new bands to over do it with first recordings. Not The Heavy Eyes though. Recorded on an old Tascam recorder in a non sound proofed room this debut demo really captures a great band at work. Rocking a typically classic sound, with a southern, bluesy tone these guys really sound as though they've just been whisked straight out of the 70's. Riff heavy and catchy as hell, if the opening track Voytek doesn't get your foot tapping you must be a bloody corpse! 

Its just a shame it all over so quickly. It's only a 4 track demo, but its a damn good one and will leave you wanting more. If these guys can pull off this kinda quality with such little effort I cant wait until they lay down a full length record in a studio. Keep a close eye on this band over 2011!
